Administrative History | In the 18th century special Acts of Parliament were passed in many areas of the country establishing turnpike trusts which had powers to collect tolls in exchange for providing and maintaining a road. The Nottingham and Ilkeston Turnpike Trust was established by a Local Act of Parliament in 1764. It was wound up in 1874. |
