Title
Nominal ledger, possibly of draper in Bakewell area, arranged alphabetically Jan 1837-Feb 1871
Date
1837-1871
Description
This volume deals with sales of goods to named customers with some references to particular types of cloth. From 1839 most entries change from named customers to Taylor & Wilson. Taylor & Wilson are listed in a trade directory published in 1846 as linen and woollen drapers of Bakewell. A trade directory published in 1835 lists Johnson & Taylor as linen and woollen drapers of Bakewell, and it is possible that this ledger started with that firm. Many of the named customers belong to aristocratic and gentry families associated with the middle part of the county.
