The Company was established to take over the assets and works of several companies, persons and firms in order that quarries could be worked for limestone.
The Old Buxton Lime Co Ltd, incorporated 1888; The Buxton Lime Co Ltd, incorporated 1872; The Buxton Central Lime and Stone Co Ltd, incorporated 1872; William Brierley, trading as the East Buxton Lime Co at Wormhill and Taddington; Jonathan Partington, trading as the Ashwood Dale Lime and Stone Co at Ashwood Dale; the Great Rocks Lime and Stone Co of Doveholes; Messrs T Beswick & Sons of Wormhill and Peak Forest; Messrs Edward Heathcott & Sons of Doveholes; Messrs Richard Briggs of Dowlow; Messrs J & M Tymm of Marple, Cheshire; Joseph Wainwright of Wormhill and Peak Forest; and William Pitt of Bugsworth.
