Administrative History
Emanuel, third son of Thomas and Phebe Howitt, was born on 6 April 1791. In 1814 he married Mary Leaver by whom he had several children. After her death in 1832, he married Elizabeth Robinson in 1846. He died in 1857.
Emanuel went to America in 1819 with his disgraced brother Thomas but returned the following year. Like his father he worked in the textile industry but later became a farmer at Farnsfield (Nottinghamshire).
He supported his brother Francis Tantum in the argument with their brothers William and Richard over settling their father's estate.
