Description
The volumes of indexes to registers of burials were probably created in 1974 when the Borough of Chesterfield took over their administration. The counterfoil books vary in detail, but usually give information on fees paid, grantee’s name, number of grave space or vault, number of interments and date of grant.

Chesterfield Borough Cemeteries
Administrative History
Spital Cemetery at Hady Hill was provided originally by Chesterfield and Tapton Burial Board. From 1894 it was run by Chesterfield and Tapton Burial Acts Joint Committee and from 1920 by the Borough of Chesterfield.
Boythorpe Cemetery was likewise originally provided by Chesterfield and Tapton Burial Board. It was opened in 1919, but administered from 1920 by the Borough of Chesterfield.
Brimington Cemetery was established in 1878 by Brimington Burial Board. In 1903 it was administered by Brimington Parish Council and eventually taken over by the Borough of Chesterfield.
Staveley Cemetery was originally set up in 1884 by the Chesterfield Union Rural Sanitary Authority, later Chesterfield Rural District Council. In 1950 it was taken over by Staveley Urban District Council until local government reorganisation in 1974.
