Administrative History
In 1946 the scheme was proposed to provide a village as a memorial to the men and women of the Borough who gave their lives in World War II. The scheme was launched in 1947 to provide model dwellings for the disabled ex-servicemen in the War Memorial Village in Allenton. It was administered by a Council of Management of 24 members, elected from the Association of the War Memorial Village, of which the Mayor was President.
