Administrative History | Derby Local Board of Health was set up under the provision of the Public Health Act 1848. By the Act municipal corporations could seek to become local boards of health, and this is what Derby Corporation did. It took over from the Improvement Commissioners in 1850 (see D4539) and had the powers to deal with sewerage, water supply, highways, street paving, street clearing, removal of nuisances, slaughter houses and drainage. In 1872 it changed its title to Derby Urban Sanitary Authority following the Public Health Act, 1872. In 1888 its functions were officially taken over by the Borough Council, although several of its committees carried on under the Council. |
