Administrative HistoryRepton School was founded in 1557, when Sir John Port died and bequeathed funds to create a Grammar School in either Etwall or Repton. Through his will he also provided expenses for poor scholars at the school. His executors established the school at Repton and purchased the surviving buildings of Repton Priory, which following the dissolution of the monasteries in 1538 had become the property of the Thacker family. The school was incorporated by charter in 1621.

In 1768 the school expanded into The Hall, which was leased from the Burdett family, who had inherited it from Mary Thacker. Dr Steuart Adolphus Pears became Headmaster in 1854 and substantially reformed and enlarged the school so that it expanded from 49 to 260 pupils by the time he left. The school was further enlarged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and The Hall was purchased from the Burdett family in 1891. A preparatory school was opened in 1940, which moved to Foremarke Hall, the former home of the Burdett family, in 1947. The school became co-educational in 1970.
Custodial HistoryThese records were deposited by the school in August 1996 and October 2000.
