Administrative History
Given the range of dates in this account book there is room for doubt about the identity of the author. One possible author is a Stephen Domelow baptised at Weston upon Trent in 1730, but no further evidence has been found of his presence in Weston upon Trent. Another possibility is Stephen Dumelow (1777-1843) of Weston upon Trent. He received a legacy in 1800 under the will of his father John Dumelow and in 1805 he married Sarah Dudley. Stephen Dumelow's will indicates that he was a man of substance, with property in Weston upon Trent. From 1813 until 1841 he served as clerk to the Shardlow Board of Guardians then to the Shardlow Union. His will indicates that he lived most of his life in Weston upon Trent and but by 1841 was living in Shardlow.
