Administrative History
The founders of the Newhall Central Methodist Church were expelled from the Horninglow Street Wesleyan Society in Burton upon Trent in 1851. They formed a new group and built a church in George Street in 1852. A church at Newhall was built the following year, under the auspices of the George Street ministry. A minister specifically for Newhall was appointed in 1861. Two years later the site of the present church was purchased and a Trust formed. The old church was sold in 1864 but bought back in 1899, at which time schoolrooms were added.
Newhall Central was known as 'The Free Church' for many years. It was part of the George Street circuit of the United Methodist Free Church (from 1907 the United Methodist Church), and was later part of the Burton upon Trent Trinity Circuit. In 1962 the church formed part of the newly-created Newhall and Woodville circuit. In 1967 the circuit amalgamated with the South Derbyshire Methodist Circuit.
