Title
Minute book containing record of Quarterly, Preachers' and General meetings
Date
Sep 1842-Sep 1864
Description
The format and arrangement of most of the 'General Business' minutes suggest they refer to matters discussed following a Quarterly or Preachers' meeting but not directly related to the business of those meetings.
Sale Description from Ambra Books, Mar 2024
Minute Book Manuscript on 211 complete pages, in notebook size 8"x 6«", half calf, marbled boards, marbled boards slightly rubbed. Each entry over several pages, with title giving place (all are at Ilkeston) and date, and 'Preachers Meeting'. Lists resolutions of meeting, ending with signatures of President and Secretary. There are approx. 20 resolutions per meeting, regarding who should preach where, ('That when we have Camp or Revival meetings the local preachers stay at the lovefeast in the evening'), leading prayer meetings, magazines, building school room at Ilkeston, accrediting new preachers, etc. There are references to particular people, e.g. 'That sister Wheatley sink one figure for neglect of Mill Hay', 'That Mr Eatch's name come off the Plan for his unkind treatment of his late wife, and sister in law', 'that the Ilkeston Leaders be requested to raise a new class from among the Stragglers.', 'that we report Luke Wright to the district Meeting as a wrangler'
