Description
Copy probate of Humphrey Carter of Draycott, Derbyshire, yeoman, leaving his body to be buried in the church of Wilne near that of Robert Carter his father and bequeathing 20s to the poor of Draycott and Wilne and 6s 8d to the poor of Draycott and Wilne and 6s 8d to the poor of Beaston. Legacies as follows;- to his son Robert all the doors in his house that are moveable, the long table and frames therein, the table frames and livery cupboard with sealed bedstead in the parlour, 1 stone horse trough, all his hovels and pales with all ranges, planches and cratches in the stable and beast house, and to be maintained by his mother until he is 21; to Jane his daughter, wife of Jervis Dodson, 10s for her child's part; to Jervis Dodson his 2 year old grey stoned colt; to his daughters Alice and Elizabeth £100 each when they become 21 with proviso that if Jane his wife shall marry again before they are of age, she is to pay their portions to John Osborne of Derby in trust; to Ales Bucknall, his natural mother, £20, provided she shall not lay claim to the £10 a year he is bound to pay her and provided she lives with his wife; to Ellen Cheriboughe, his sister, an 11s gold piece; to Ellen her daughter, 1 ewe and a lamb; to his nephew Robert Carter of Beaston, 1 heifer of 22s 4d; to all his servants 12d each; his wife is to transfer to their son when he shall reach 21, all the freehold estate at Draycott in which she has a life interest; all the residue of his estate to his wife Jane Carter. 9 Oct
