Title
Manor of Ilkeston: unlisted records
Description
Unlisted accession, May 2023
Deeds, will (Latin and English). Copyhold surrender and admittance, Ilkeston, (Cooke/Lowe), 1703
Receipt for purchase of copyhold, Cooke to Lowe, 1703
Copyhold surrender and admittance, Ilkeston, 1734
These records were donated to Derbyshire Record Office in May 2023 by Stoke-on-Trent City Archives having been found in the strong rooms as the service prepared to move to new premises. The content and condition (several items were glued to cardboard) suggests they may have been part of the same series of items that had been donated to Derbyshire Record Office by Stoke-on-Trent City Library in 1953. Therefore they have been added to the same collection.
However, three of the four items donated in 1953 (D39/1-2, 4) are stamped WEA Local History Group. A date in red ink has been added to D39/3, with a brief description on the reverse in pencil, possibly with the initials of W. E. Tate who's name is written in ink on the reverse of D39/4 and which includes the place name 'Ilkeston, DERBYS' in the same red ink.
Further investigation regarding the provenance of these items is required before cataloguing work can be carried out.
