| Administrative History | A Primitive Methodist Chapel was erected on land at Hugh Lane in Bradwell in 1845, and was known as Bethlehem Chapel. It was enlarged in 1878 and had a graveyard attached. The organ was installed in 1900. Electric lighting was installed in August 1945, with a prayer that the True Light may shine forth.
The Primitive Methodist and Wesleyan Methodist Chapels were renovated in April 1975.
Bradwell was first visited by John Wesley in 1747, but the building of the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in 1807 still made Bradwell one of the oldest Wesleyan locastions in North Derbyshire. The Chapel was renovated in 1891 with the addition of a new portico at the front, and a new organ chamber at the rear. As part of the 1975 renovations the Bethlehem Chapel organ was moved to the Wesleyan Chapel, which was completely re-wired to conform to modern regulations. A gas-fired boiler was also installed. The Bradwell Bethlehem Chapel was closed in 1975. |
