Description | Whereas by lease and release (4/5 Feb, 1678/9) he sold to Thomas Orme of Hanch Hall (Staffordshire), Francis Agard of London, Ferdinand Lowe of Alderwasley and John Adderley, the manor of Scropton, half the manor of Boylestone, the rectory of Church Broughton, and all his lands, tithes, rents etc, in Scropton, Boylestone, Church Broughton, Foston and Sapperton, and the manors of Kings Bromley, Armitage, Handsacre and Ridware (Stafforshire), to the use of himself for life, and then as directed by his will, therefore and said manors etc to remain to Orme, Agard, Lowe and Adderley in trust to pay his debts and to pay legacies as below, subject to the payment of ?100 a year from the rents and profits to John Agard, his eldest son, until he shall inherit such estates are unsold; to his youngest daughters, Katherine and Vera, ?100 each and until this be paid, ?20 each per annum; after the raising of the said sums, the residue of the estates to his son, John Agard, in tail general; to the 4 trustees ?10 each to buy rings; to his wife, all his plate and linen, the furniture in her own chamber and whatsoever is in her closet, together with all the toll and benefit of Scropton Mill; to his son in law, John Stanhope esq., his black stoned colt; to his daughter, wife of John Stanhope, and to their son, ?10 each to buy a piece of plate; to Mr Gardiner ?5; to Mr John Lowe, 20s.; to Thomas Cope, 20s.; to all his servants, 40s each; to the poor of Scropton ?4; to the poor of Church Broughton, 40s.; to the poor of Boylestone 40s.; to the poor of Kings Bromley 40.; all the residue of his personal estate to his wife and son to be equally divided |
