| Administrative History | The first school in Shirebrook was the National School, which opened in 1852. In 1896 it became a Board School for both boys and girls, and new premises were built in Carter Lane. In 1902 the school was reorganised into separate Boys and Girls Departments. The Girls School became a Junior Girls School in 1930, but in 1953 was re-organised again to become a Junior Mixed School. The school, also known as Carter Lane School, ceased to exist when it closed permanently in 1984. |
