Description | Warrant issued today for apprehension of C J Brydges, Managing Director of Great Western Railway Co and all Directors of Great Western Railway Co. Mr Harris one of the Directors they believe a resident of their City and Mr Brydges. Warrant granted by undersigned magistrate of Kent on sworn deposition of Royal Gascoyne who charges directors with failing his Father and Mother. Please detain parties till constable arrives and advise A McKellan esq. Reeve of Town of Chatham - J Waddell JP. William Bailey JP. Henry Ronalds JP and Arch McKellan JP.
Memorandum by William Longsdon, 1 November 1854 at Hamilton. He hears there are magistrates on bench; 3 refused to sign warrant; and one acted with maniacal rage. Legal evidence on which to issue warrant slight - `all other Directors' not specified. Mayor of Hamilton himself a Director telegraphed back that should not detain gentlemen as they would be forthcoming if wanted 4 Nov 1854, 10.00 am - sent with copy of telegraph from Mr Baker of Friday 3 Nov about discharge of jury. |
