Description Lizzie [?Elizabeth Smithers] here - kindest regards and in state of bliss thanks to his pleading. On Sunday found Alfred Morewood and Mrs Perrins here on their return from church - middling account of Mr M becoming weaker. Declined invitation to tea because felt only given from wish to show Lizzie a little attention - Mrs M does not care for people even to call round - sadly wearied. Local news. Has written to Charles and enclosed note to Eliza - it will, she hopes, save her the trouble of making any more comments on transactions of Edward ?H & Co nothing hasty or inconsiderate in her expressions. 22nd. Handles for drawing room doors & windows arrived - white with little gold ornament. Hopes everything else will look as chaste. Work at complete standstill since last letter. Hopes will come next week. Will be all straightforward with them, so hope they do not go off again. Old [Pidock] still no particular news for him. 25 lambs and 2 more ewes to lamb. William meant to have gone to Castleton fair on Wednesday but when he went up to Mr Jones for money found he had gone to London. William disturbed that he had missed the Fair. Randal and Matthew principally engaged in setting potatoes - now finished - ground ready for mangle wurzels. Matthew has been to the Coal Pit. - Lists potatoes: 5 pecks kidneys, 6p. fortyfolds, 2 pecks flukes, 7p Chapman's white blossom, 6p Red Dutch, 6p, Irish & Steady Fruit, 6 p Whites ones (old seed) Wild has put in Peas (2 successions) beans, Onions, Beets all as well as carrots coming up well. Wild potting in green house yet to plant out in garden.
