The parish originally included Biggin in Nether Quarter (separate parish in 1849, see D3445) and Burbage in Upper Quarter (separate parish in 1869, see D2425). Earl Sterndale also formerly belonged to Hartington and became a separate parish in 1873 (see D2382).
