| Administrative History | By the early 20th century, the county constabulary had a Detective Inspector, based at headquarters in St Mary's Gate, Derby, who kept a county register of convicted person, containing descriptions, convictions and photographs.
In January 1925, Superintendent Else was given facilities to organise the County Record Office and a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was established by 1930. The CID ceased using register books and replaced them with a card system which comprised descriptive cards, name index, MO index and peculiarity and deformity index and portrait index. |
