TitleWinchester to P.L.G. : Selborne should not be considered as he may at some stage resume his place in the Govt. Beit supports the choice of Milner, but he [W.] thinks that he would be difficult to get and would not be the best man for discussions with South Africa nor is he popular with the Labour Party in the H. of C.;
is against Maguire because of his actions in 1913 and since, and because of his unwillingness to make any change in policy;
gathers that P.L.G. is unwilling to accept and that his health would not stand it;
is thus in favour of Birchenough, finds that Erlanger, Fox &
Maguire either support or would accept him though Malcolm would have Maguire in preference, Abercorn, Michell and Beit would probable support B.;
Malcolm has asked if he (W.) would support the election of Selborne as ordinary director, he wants him to support him against Birchenough.
