Title
Statement by Wilmot Horton on his father's will
Date
1836
Description
Printed in Ceylon by the Wesleyan Mission Press 1836, but not published. The subject is the will of Sir Robert Wilmot with its various late codicils. The final will left the entailed estate only to Wilmot Horton and the residue of the personalty (about £100,000) to his younger children. One adviser considered R W to be incapable of transacting business at that time - the difference of about £60,000 to Wilmot Horton would have relieved his financial difficulties considerably. The statement includes copy correspondence and a section purporting to show the jealousy of Lady Wilmot, Wilmot Horton's stepmother. Manuscript alterations and corrections are included
