Description	Copy letter from Wilmot Horton to Birkbeck, Jul 1831, from Madeira (not received by Birkbeck). He had hoped before leaving England to have addressed some observations to the members of the class on political economy - to be formed at the Mechanics Institute. Reply from Birkbeck Jul 1838, inclined to agree with Wilmot Horton in general terms, though he believes that the government should interfere as little as possible with the distribution of wealth, in the shape of revenue and national expenditure
