Administrative History | These are contemporary notes made by an unknown student of a published work of 1777 by Alan Hall (c1712- 1790), who had been appointed curate at Pleasley around 1764. The text was published after the Derby Mercury published an appeal for subscribers to support the publication of the text, claiming that Hall's "abilities in the science are too well known to the nobility, gentry and farmers in that part of the country where he resides to need any further recommendation". The publisher was Job Bradley of Chesterfield, and the work bore the title "Observations on the Weather by Alan Hall of Pleasley in the County of Derby, Clerk". For an original print copy, see D589/ZZ/5. Alan Hall was buried on 20 April 1790 at High Melton parish church in the West Riding of Yorkshire, where his brother John had been curate until his death in 1788. |
