Date18 Sep 1813
DescriptionArrived at Carmarthen about 5 weeks ago, having stopped at Audnam Castle about 5 weeks in which time they were at Bilston, 3 weeks at Uttoxeter where Luke visited then and they left Sally, and 5 weeks at Melingriffith. Invites visits. Disappointment that not able to take leave of Bro' Ward. Have taken 2 rooms. Hope to get one of their own houses at Michaelmas, Butchers meat 6 to 7d a 1b, butter 24oz at 20d, 21d, 22d. Veal reputed much cheaper soon. Flour seconds from 3s 6d to 4s a peck or stone 14lbs, expected much lower soon. Corn chiefly all cut, and some housed here, but in Cardiganshire and on the hilly parts more backward. Oysters and herrings fresh, will be plenty soon. His agent has allowed one of the tenants to be 2 years rent £17 in arrears, which he fears he will lose. Wishes to improve the houses and get their value - at present underlet, 14 Sep. Anne Woodhouse's note, did not know one in a hundred when she reached the town. All dear, Carmarthen almost like London very [? great] building and many people. Everything double the price when they went away. Respects to Betsy Morris and others named. Please tell Mr Evans that John Hix is dead and has left 6 children, and tell Molly that Edward Hix of the Green Dragon [? Hurst] is doing very well and has his meeting house built since they went away. S Woodhouse, postscript asking them to write soon.
