Administrative History | Whaley Thorns school was built in 1881 and run by the Bolsover School Board. In 1903, the school board functions were taken over by the County Council and the Bolsover Education Committee was set up to deal with these governor-run schools. Whaley Thorns was dealt with by a separate group of managers after 1917.
A new building for the Girls' department was opened in November 1928. In September 1952, the Boys and Girls departments were reorganised. The Girls building became the mixed Secondary school, with the Boys building becoming the Junior school. The Secondary school closed in July 1979 and all pupils were transferred to Shirebrook Comprehensive. |
