| Description | Begins with the arrival of African soldiers in the Roman army, but otherwise focuses almost exclusively on the history of the trade of enslaved African peoples. It does include brief biographies of Olaudah Equiano, Phyllis Wheatley and Francis Barber. Typical of most British histories it also places great emphasis on the role of William Wilberforce in the abolition of slavery in 1833. However, it also relates that the reduced economic value of the trade was a significant factor in its abolition. |
