Description	Comprising paper pages bound in a fragment of parchment deed. As well as court roll entries for Snelston the volume includes copy letters, memoranda and examples of signatures. The cover is inscribed 'Snelston Court Book'. The pagination is modern p. 1 Rental, including field names, tenants and amounts, nd [late 17th cent] p. 2 Signed by George Bradshaw p. 3 Pains laid - pinfold repair, etc p. 4 Snelston Great Court 16 May 1 Jas I [1603] including essoins, pains laid, etc p. 5 Snelston Great Court 23 Apr 1604 - Essoins, jury, etc p. 6 Copy letter from 'daughter' to 'sister Lettice' re money brother Lewes procured on writer's behalf from 'Co[usin] Morgan'. Response : 'saucie and sullen demand' p. 7 Court Baron, 8 Oct. 5 Jas I [1607] Essoins, jury, pains laid, etc pp.8-9 Custumal. Note re meeting before Easter to see how Cockshutt Lane be mended by hedging and ditching p. 10 Court Baron, 11 Oct 6 Jas I [1608] - Essoins, jury, heriot, etc p. 11 'Charges about repairing the old hovel' Aug 1681 p. 12 Copy letter asking for financial support from unnamed writer, deserted wife of William Baines, formerly joiner at New Mill forge, later a 'soldier for King William.' Writer lived in house in Makeney until unable to pay rent; then lived in 'poor house' of widow Shipston now dead, therefore evicted. Writer's son sick for a long time; writer ill all winter of 'third day ague' and forced to sell her belongings to Mr Woodhouse of Makeney; therefore seeks assistance pp.13-14 Accounts of John Litchfield, Constable of Duffield, 22 April 1680 p. 15 Poem 'Then as swift as any roe' p.16 Notes of tenure and parish disbursements e.g. 'Stipendiary priest to keep school 20s'
