Administrative History | W S Stone may be Walter Samuel Stone (1886-1976) who was born in Elton. By 1911 he was living in Darley Dale employed by the Midland Railway as a locomotive fireman, (presumably at Rowsley engine shed), and later became a locomotive driver. He was married in 1915 to Gertrude Emma Hallowes (1887-1979). By 1939 they were living at Oak Cottage, Moor Lane, Darley Dale and this address is named in the probate index following Walter Samuel Stone's death in 1976. W S Stone is not listed in the trade directory as a poultry farmer which might indicate that the keeeping of poultry and making of wine were a secondary occupation or leisure-time domestic activities. |
