Title
Register of baptisms, marriages and burials
Date
1653-1701
Description
Baptisms 1653-1691 (including births 1653-1662)
Marriages 1653-1690
Burials 1653-1691, 1701 (two entries) (including deaths 1653-1664)
The last few years of this register overlap with the following one, but the entries in the two volumes during this period are not identical.
The volume starts with note of appointment of a "register" in 1653, and records the appointment of another "register" in 1655. The order of entries is confused.
The volume also includes:
(a) memorandum that a piece of land in "Breake" lying between Richard Buxton's dole and Edmund Buxton's dole, leading to the common land rented [?] from Brassington at the north end and Carsington hill on the south, formerly left for a road, was given to the township, after the sale of half a "beast gate" in the pasture, and for which the churchwardens were to pay the rent of 5s a year due to the reeve of Brassington for the inhabitants' right of entering Brassington Moor.
(b) note of induction of Nathaniel Boothouse as rector 1688.
(c) list of churchwardens, 1662-1671 (inside back cover), and of churchwardens, overseers of the poor and overseers (surveyors) of the
highways, 1675-1678.
(d) note of the burial of Robert Hayward in the meeting house at Wirksworth, 1701
