TitleRegister of baptisms, marriages and burials
Date1630-1768
DescriptionRecording:
baptisms Sep 1630-Jan 1768
marriages Aug 1630-Dec 1753
burials Aug 1630-Jan 1768
There are entries for baptisms at conventicle meetings in the early eighteenth century.

The entries for 1630-1705 are copied from the original parish register whose present whereabouts, if extant, are unknown. According to Clarence Daniel in A Guide to Eyam (1947) the original parish registers dating from 1630-1705 consisted of separate documents and were replaced by a transcription by Rev Joseph Hunt, who was Rector at Eyam between 1683 and 1709. Rev Hunt was said to have been involved in protracted litigation in a case of breach of promise which forced him to seek sanctuary in the church vestry where he lived and where he "beguiled the weary hours by re-writing the Registers".

The second hand in this register for the period 1705-1710 appears to be that of Michael Baker, parish clerk who wrote the entries for 1707-1723/4 in the register PI 1/2. There are discrepancies in the entries for the period between 1705 and 1723/4 in these two registers, including omissions and spelling differences.

The register includes memoranda about the Rectors William Mompesson, Thomas Stanley, Edmund Finch and Rev Hawkins and notes of the inductions of Joseph Hunt (1683), Alexander Hambleton (1712) and Thomas Seward (1740). In 1683 there is a memorandum on responsibility for repair of the gate between the parsonage house and the churchyard.

There is a list of Rectors 1630-1826 on the last page.

Most of the Talbot entries in the register have been marked.

Entry on 30 December 1663 records the burial of 'Anne a Traveller who was at her death according to her own computation 136 years of age'
