Title
Personal letter from Sir William Gell to his mother, Mrs Blore from Whittington, near Oswestry, Salop
Date
6 Sep 1804
Description
`Not having succeeded so well as I expected in the affair of the Embassy on some points, I yet remain in England, nor shall I receive my appointment before I reach Zante or Patras'. Thinks of sailing for Gibraltar on his way to Greece about 17th [September]. Hopes she has received the book [Troad]; if not, she needs only to write to Longman and Rees in Paternoster Row. `How far I may be noticed by government I know not'. Finds English summer too changeable for his constitution. Has just left the Admiral in high spirits, but more prudent about walking in the wet to prove the efficacy of the waterproof leather. Asks her to write to him at the Revd Mr Davies's, Whittington, near Oswestry
