Description
This map is described in the Derbyshire Record Society's "A Catalogue of Local Maps of Derbyshire c.1528–1800" (compiled by Harold Nichols, revised by Mary Wiltshire assisted by Susan Woore, published 2012). The description reads as follows:
A Plan of Hognaston Old Field ... April 1732. Surveyor:[Samuel Hutch]inson. Scale: barely legible, possibly 5 chains to 1 inch [1:4000]. Size: 58 x 44.5 cm. Materials: coloured paint on parchment, badly deteriorated. The coloured paint and pencil lines remain whilst the main (ink?) lines are lost. Centred on: SK235515 Notes: sketch plan, some owners names visible including John Gell: Round Knowl shown and 'footway to Wirksworth' embellished: the pencil marks seem to relate to a chain survey: title in a rectangular marked frame.
