| Administrative History | High Peak Petty Sessional Division from 1854 was known as Chapel en le Frith Division of the High Peak.
The area included the following townships: Aston, Bamford, Beard and Ollerset, Bowden Edge, Brough and Shatton, Buxton until 1880, Castleton, Charlesworth, Chinley, Bugsworth and Brownside, Chisworth, Combs Edge, Derwent, Dinting, Edale, Fairfield until 1880, Fernilee, Glossop until 1855, Great Hamlet [Hayfield], Hartington Upper Quarter (until about 1880), Hathersage (until about 1854), Hayfield (also called Great Hamlet), Hope, Hope Woodlands, Ludworth, Mellor, Offerton, Outseats, Peak Forest, Thornhill.
Glossop disappeared from the records in 1855, although the Borough was not created until 1866 (Glossop Borough area included Dinting). Buxton became a separate Division in 1880, its area including Fairfield from the places named above. Hartington Upper Quarter after a period in Ashbourne Petty Sessional District was later added to Buxton.
This Division was absorbed into a High Peak Division in 1974. |
