Title
William Perrin from Kingston, Jamaica, to his wife Frances at Beckenham (co. Kent)
Date
8 Mar [1750]
Description
Mathias Philp died at Spanish Town on 27 February; it was believed he died intestate which would entail a loss to Perrin of over £15,000, but Perrin has found a will, leaving him the residue of all real and personal estate after bequests of £6000; however, the will may be invalid as one of its witnesses has been left a conditional bequest - "but not a word of this flaw to anyone"; Philp's debts amount to much more than his estate would sell for; it is essential to Perrin's financial position to have the mortgage on Philp's estate taken up in trust for himself. Dated 8 March 1749/50
