Description
Report of a violent hurricane at Blue Mountain on 30 July - buildings damaged or flattened, the canes and trees flattened; a 'negro' woman [Black peoples] delivered herself of a fine child in the fields at the height of the storm; fortunately, the estate reports no loss of human life; all thoughts of the new mill must be set aside for the moment; Grange Hill suffered relatively minor damage by comparison, Vere more so; enclose letters from the respective overseers (D239/M/E/17061-62). (with duplicate)
