Title
Map of Calke lordship showing Abbey, gardens and park
Date
1761
Description
Helen Raynor attributes this map, and others, to the surveyor Samuel Wyatt stating:
"Unfortunately, Samuel Wyatt appear to have made a habit of putting neither his name nor a date on his maps. It is only his bill for the surveying work that identifies him as the surveyor involved on the Calke estate maps", see D2375/E/A/6/1/8 Samuel Wyatt's account for surveying several estates belonging to Sir Henry Harpur, 1761-1781
Raynor also identified Wyatt as the surveyor of a map of Breedon-on-the-Hill, Leicestershire and uses a comparison of the styles of the map and cartouche as further evidence of this item being created by Wyatt.
