The book is bound in a parchment cover made up from a religious text with coloured initial letters and individual words and passages highlighted in red ink.
Also including D2375/A/S/1/1/2/1 (previously D2375/M/1/3/1) Draft letter from a dying mother to her son, dictated and written in Swarkestone, written on the reverse of notes about four properties, late 16th century The draft letter makes references to a "noble man", possibly the Earl of Derby, and relatives in the Needham and Bennet family; the notes refer to an indenture of 28 June 1577 granted by V.M. [Vincent Mundy] to his son H.M, the properties seemingly leased from the Queen, including references to a demesne or hallhouse, Shacklow and the Cawdrey, the last being not held of the Duchy but of the manor of Alton, being the fee of the Earl of Shrewsbury. |
