Draft letter from a dying mother to her son, dictated and written in Swarkestone, written on the reverse of notes about four properties, late 16th century
The draft letter makes references to a "noble man", possibly the Earl of Derby, and relatives in the Needham and Bennet family; the notes refer to an indenture of 28 June 1577 granted by V.M. [Vincent Mundy] to his son H.M, the properties seemingly leased from the Queen, including references to a demesne or hallhouse, Shacklow and the Cawdrey, the last being not held of the Duchy but of the manor of Alton, being the fee of the Earl of Shrewsbury.
