The information in the book has been copied in a neat hand, possibly of the early 16th century. With regard to the court rolls, they have not been transcribed exactly as they would have appeared in the original, with some re-arrangement of date information in particular. The book is bound in a parchment cover made up from a religious text with coloured initial letters and individual words highlighted in red ink.
Loose inside is a sheet of notes by Bartholomow Kirkbye on the lordship of Alstonefield.
