| Administrative History | In 1871 twelve acres of land in Buxton (given by the Duke of Devonshire) were enclosed by the Buxton Improvement Company Limited. The land was laid out as ornamental gardens and a pavilion erected. The Improvement Company was succeeded by the Buxton Gardens Company Ltd in 1888. The gardens and pavilion passed to the control of Buxton Borough Council in 1927 following the voluntary liquidation of the Gardens Company Ltd. |
