Administrative History | RIPLEY METHODIST CIRCUIT (1942-2010) The amalgamated Ripley Methodist Circuit was formed in 1942. It included the following churches: Ripley: Wesleyan (Chapel St), Ebenezer (Nottingham Rd), Nottingham Road (formerly Primitive Methodist), Wood Street and Bethel (Derby Rd); Nether Heage; Codnor: Bethesda, Wesleyan and Wright Street; Swanwick: Pentrich Road and Derby Road; Waingroves; Golden Valley; Crich; Heanor: Wesleyan; Mount Street and Mansfield Road; New Brinsley; Pye Hill Trinity; Ironville; Denby; Riddings; Somercotes: Wesleyan and Salem; Leabrooks; Birchwood; Selston; South Wingfield: Wesleyan and Zion. The circuit proved too large and unwieldy and the South Normanton circuit was formed from it in 1948.
RIPLEY WESLEYAN METHODIST CIRCUIT (fl 1838-1942) The Ripley Wesleyan Methodist Circuit included the churches at Chapel Street, Ripley; Riddings; Heanor; Codnor; Alfreton; South Wingfield; Somercotes; Buckland Hollow; Blackwell; South Normanton and Berrister.
ALFRETON AND SOUTH NORMANTON METHODIST CIRCUIT (fl 1871-1966) This circuit was originally known as the Alfreton Primitive Methodist Circuit which was established Nottingham Road, Alfreton; Somercotes; Portland Row; Inkerman; South Normanton; Morewood Moor; in 1879 and included churches at Derby Road and Wessington; Pinxton; Westhouses; New Selston and Leabrooks. From 1926 the circuit became known as the Alfreton and South Normanton Primitive Methodist Circuit. The South Normanton Circuit formed in 1948 was united with this circuit in 1966 to form the Alfreton Circuit.
SOUTH NORMANTON METHODIST CIRCUIT (1948-1966) The South Normanton Circuit was formed from the Ripley Circuit in 1948. It included the Wesleyan and King Street Churches, Alfreton; Tabor, Wesleyan and Bethel, South Normanton; Pinxton Wharf and Pinxton Town Street; Bentinck, Kirkby in Ashfield; Victoria Street, Stanton Hill; Priestsic Road, Sutton in Ashfield; Blackwell; B Winning and Sherwood Street, Huthwaite. When the Circuit was joined to the Alfreton and South Normanton Circuit to form the Alfreton Circuit in 1966, the churches at Kirkby in Ashfield, Sutton in Ashfield, Huthwaite and Stanton Hill were transferred to the Ashfield Circuit.
ALFRETON METHODIST CIRCUIT (1966-2010) This circuit was formed from the union of the South Normanton and Alfreton and South Normanton Circuits in 1966.
RIPLEY NOTTINGHAM ROAD (FORMERLY PRIMITIVE) METHODIST CIRCUIT (1851-1942) The Ripley Primitive Methodist Circuit included the churches at Nottingham Road and Wood Street, Ripley, Golden Valley, Pye Hill, Swanwick, Crich, Ironville, Codnor, Nether Heage, Westwood, Marehay and New Brinsley.
RIPLEY UNITED METHODIST CIRCUIT (fl 1910-1942) The Ripley United Methodist Circuit included the Bethel and Ebenezer Churches, Ripley, Alfreton, Swanwick, South Normanton, Pinxton, Birchwood, Pentrich, South Wingfield, Leabrooks and Selston.
CODNOR METHODIST CIRCUIT (1876-fl 1941) The Circuit included churches at Codnor, Mount Street and Mansfield Road, Heanor, Waingroves, Pinxton Wharf, Somercotes, Ironville, Langley Mill, South Normanton and Denby. |
