Administrative HistoryThe Derby constituency returned two members until 1948 when under the terms of the Representation of the People Act, 1948 (chap 65), two separate constituencies each returning one member were created. Derby North consisted of the wards of Abbey, Babington, Becket, Bridge, Derwent, Friargate, Kingsmead and Rowditch; Derby South consisted of the wards of Alvaston, Arboretum, Castle, Dale, Litchurch, Normanton, Osmaston and Peartree. These boundaries have subsequently changed as the borough (now city) boundaries have been extended. It was normal practice for there to be one agent representing both constituencies and responsible for all the older records. So these records have been treated as one accession, although there are now two constituency associations.
Custodial HistoryThese records were deposited in May 1979, with an additional deposit in August 1983.
