Administrative History | Arthur Milner (1857-1915), son of a farmer at Morewood Moor, South Wingfield, was a farmer at Stretton, near Clay Cross from at least 1876, and was later joined by his eldest son, also Arthur (1882-1951). By 1881, Arthur senior was secretary to the Agricultural Society and agent to the Imperial Insurance Company. In a directory of 1901, he is described as 'farmer and tenant right valuer, land and insurance agent, member of Clay Cross School Board, secretary to Clay Cross Ploughing Association, district councillor and chairman of the Parish Council. Arthur junior later moved to Hagg House Farm, Morton.
Arthur senior's father, also Arthur (c1834-1911) was buried at Morton and the entry in the register reads "head of a family connected with M. since 1598". |
