BENJAMIN ASHTON of Hathersage bequeathed several sums in his will of 1718 (proved 1725): - £5 for the education of the poorest boys of Hathersage and Outseats in reading English - £3 or a yearly sermon to be preached in the Parish Church of Hathersage on St Thomas Day [3 July] - £2 to be distributed yearly to the poorest people of Hathersage and Outseats on St Thomas Day - £100 for procuring Queen Anne's Bounty to Hathersage parish church - £10 10s for the creation of a school
WILLIAM ARCHER gave £50 for procuring Queen Anne's Bounty and a further £50, "raised by subscription of the owners of lands and persons living in the Parish of Hathersage"
REV. ROBERT TURIE gave part of the Abbey, Carr House and their lands in Derwent Dale for the procuring of Queen Anne's Bounty to the Chapel of Derwent, and £2 for the inhabitants of Derwent to allow six children from there to be taught to read English (see also below)
ALICIA MARIA BAGSHAW, widow of Charles Bagshaw, gave a large silver flagon for the use of the parish church of Hathersage
RICHARD SILVESTER, 1790, gave £1 3s to be distributed to the poor of Hathersage Parish on St Thomas Day
THOMAS THORNHILL of Bamford, 27 Aug 1722, gave 10s to be distributed yearly to the poor of Bamford
GEORGE BROWNHILL of Bamford, 1 Jan 1728, gave 6s to be distributed to the poorest inhabitants of Bamford on St Thomas Day and 3s to be equally divided amongst the six poorest housekeepers in Bamford yearly on Good Friday
JOHN WILLCOCKSON, 5 Jul 1741, gave £8 10s, the interest of which he ordered to the poor of Hathersage on St Thomas Day
JOHN LITTLEWOOD, 14 Jan 1743, 10s to be distributed to the poor of Hathersage on St Thomas Day
ADAM MORTON gave £10, the interest to be distributed to the poor of Hathersage, especially widows, on St Thomas Day
JOHN FROST of Riding House, 11 Sep 1773, gave 15s to be divided equally between Hathersage, Outseats and Derwent, charged upon his real estate at Riding House to be paid yearly on St Thomas Day at the discretion of the Overseers of the Poor
JOAN MORTON and THOMAS EYRE, both of Derwent, gave £200 to be laid out in land, the rents and profits arising from which, to be yearly distributed on St Thomas Day: one half to the poor of Derwent, the other half to the poor of Hathersage, Outseats and Bamford. The sum of £200 being laid out upon a house, outhousing and lands at Aston in the parish of Hope
HUGH BARBER, 16 Feb 1606, gave £1 2s to be distributed yearly on St Thomas Day, one half to the poor of Hathersage, Outseats and Bamford. The sum being charged upon lands at Maltby, Yorkshire
REV. ROBERT TURIE, 6 May 1720, gave £40 to inhabitants in Bamford to layout lands, or put out at interest, and with the rents, or interest thereof, six children to be taught to read English by a fit master (see also above)
REV. FRANCIS GISBORNE, vicar of Staveley, 6 Dec 1817, gave £7 5s to be paid to the Minister of Hathersage parish for him to buy flannel and coarse Yorkshire woollen cloth, at or before Christmas according to his discretion to be distributed to the poor within the parish, receiving or not Parish Relief, belonging or not to the Parish; also £6 10s to be paid to the Minister of Derwent for him to buy flannel and coarse Yorkshire woollen cloth, at or before Christmas to be given to the poor residing within the chapelry.
The following individuals, residents of Outseats, "have given sums linked to their names to be applied for charitable uses by the direction of a majority of the subscribers, their Trustees: HENRY IBBOTSON (£10), HENRY BROWNILL [sic] (£5), FRANCIS RODGERS (£2 10s), THOMAS STONES (£2 2s), JOHN STONES (£1 1s), JOSEPH HIBOTSON [sic] (£1), JONATHAN MITCHELL (10s). "It is further agreed by the Subscribers and their Trustees that the interest from these sums be used for the education of three poor children" |
