Description | Date of birth: 02/01/1907 Marital status: Single Address: 124 Baden Powell Road, Chesterfield Type of injury: Injury - head Description of accident: Partly buried by roof fall Further information: After multiple investigations for headaches and other consequences of the accident, a diagnosis of 'ophthalmoplegia' was made (a paralysis of eye muscles) in July 1950 and after X-Ray a neoplasm at the base of the skull was identified. GP letter of December 1950 states 'nervous symptoms are at least in some degree due to the accident. He is not aware he is suffering from cancer of the naso-pharynx and from the humanitarian point of view may I suggest you regard this as confidential' and in accompanying medical summary 'An advanced carcinoma of naso-pharynx was discovered and treated by Radium.[...] his eyes give him trouble [...] there is cranial involvement of the carcinoma. In my opinion a large part of his symptoms may be attributed to his accident'. |
