Description of accident: Lifting a girder when one fell on arm
Further information: The claimant injured his elbow while lifting a girder and one fell on to his arm on 15 March 1949. There are details of a Medical Appeal tribunal dated 7 December 1949, which assessed the disablement at 15 per cent from 14 January 1950 for 9 months. It was then assessed at 10 per cent from 14 October 1951 to 13 April 1952, which the claimant appealed against. There is a handwritten letter by the claimant dated 16 November 1951 which includes the statement that 'I am still on light work on an electric button or switch I cannot heavy work it is quite obvious the next will mean the Hardship finished.' There are further handwritten notes that state 'Arm numb. [...] If he tries to lift - Pin and needles.' The tribunal decided on appeal to award 3 per cent for life as a final assessment.
