Further information: The claimant had an accident on 25 August 1950 when coals fell on him, and according to the Claimant's Statement to Medical Board dated 12 January 1951 'I was completely buried.' He spent time in hospital He was assessed at 8 per cent for life from 23 August 1951, final. There are hospital notes included, as well as a letter of appeal from the claimant dated 6 September 1951 which states 'I think my injuries are more severe than realised and suffer a lot of pain from my right shoulder and right ankle.' On appeal, dated 18 October 1951, the percentage was increased to 12 per cent for life.
