Further information: In his appeal letter against a 3 per cent for life assessment, Jackson wrote: 'I am of the opinion that the award is totally inadequate for an injury to the eye, which could have the most serious consequences. (You will I am sure agree that the sight is very precious)'. An oculist's report was obtained for the Tribunal which concluded: 'This man is still in need of treatment [...] There will be a permanent reduction in the vision of the left eye and a tendency to be dazzled by lights'.
