Further information: There is substantial paperwork relating to this case, with a lot of handwritten letters from the claimant regarding Union, pay and medical appeal matters. The writing is somewhat difficult to read. The claimant slipped and strained himself on 4 February 1950 and injured his leg. A Medical Board on 30 June 1950 decided on a 40 per cent assessment, and on 29 September 1950, 20 per cent final. The claimants' letter of appeal dated 7 August 1951 states 'if I walk any distance or if I bend either to the right or to the left I get acute pain and I have had blackouts with the pain.' He is described in a Medical Board Report dated 20 August 1951 as a 'frail and feeble man.' The appeal is on the grounds 'that there has been substantial and unforeseen aggravation of my condition.' The decision reached on 6 December 1951 was to dismiss the appeal, as 'We find that there has been no substantial aggravation of the results of the injury.' There is some correspondence regarding the Union Old Age pension and the qualification of the claimant for it.
